AIS Car Hacks: Easy Tricks to Making Your Car Shine Again

    2 minute read

There seems to be a life hack for everything these days, and we couldn’t resist jumping on board with our own suggestions for making your car look shiny and new. Yes, there’s an express car wash at nearly every gas station, but if you’re looking for a DIY detailing, these car hacks are easy and effective. Watch the car hacks videos below or simply follow our easy instructions.

AIS Car Hack #1: Toothpaste on Your Headlights

What You’ll Need: toothpaste (white works best), toothbrush (or nail brush), water, clean cloth

Most headlights seem to dim over time, but in reality it’s not the bulb that’s problematic. In fact, it’s the film that needs to be removed from your headlights. Everyone seems to have their own solution for how to scrub the surface best, but we recommend using regular white toothpaste and a sturdy tooth or nail brush. Put some elbow grease into the scrubbing action to really make those headlights sparkle. Wipe clean with a moistened cloth.

AIS Car Hack #2: Hair Conditioner as Car Wax

What You’ll Need: creamy hair conditioner, water, clean cloth

Grab a bucket and fill it with water and conditioner. Mix the solution and use it to rinse your car after a good washing, including the windshield. The conditioner acts like a wax that keeps your car shiny. Conditioner is also water repellent and will prevent water spots from forming on your car. Once you learn this trick, you’ll never go back to the laborious task of waxing every inch of your car. It also beats the spot-free rinse at the local gas station’s car wash.

AIS Car Hack #3: Baking Soda for Your Wheels

What You’ll Need: baking soda, water, clean cloth

Do you have black streaks along your rims? It’s easy to clean them off using baking soda, which is abrasive enough to wipe off the grease without scratching the surface. Just moisten your cloth, sprinkle on some baking soda and scrub. Repeat until your wheels are as shiny and clean as you want them to be. Be sure not to use baking soda on any other parts, though, because it can scratch up your car.
